Organic Body Cleanser : Know how to choose the suitable face & body cleanser for your skin.

Choosing the suitable natural face wash and body wash is difficult in today’s commercialized world.

Skin is the vital organ of the human body

Skin is the largest organ of the human body that protects us from cold, hot, infections and much more and provides safe home to other important body organs. It is a god gifted clothing (woven with cells and tissues) to us which has the ability to maintain itself by generation of new cells and shedding off the dead cells. So the mechanism of generating the new cells and shedding off the old one’s is different as we age. Therefore different age groups need different skin care products made keeping in view their age.

Hence SNAANA’ years of research have proved that using the skin care product made for your age group and respective skin tone can automatically address many skin concerns that otherwise have occurred only due to wrong and improper usage of products. And this uniqueness of making products sets SNAANA very different – effective and hence successful in the market.

Amongst the skin care routine steps- Cleansing is the primary step. And cleansing the skin with right natural cleanser is the stone stepping to a healthy and vibrant skin.

Choosing the right cleanser is a challenge

Misselling of the product

Choosing the right cleanser from products available in the market is a challenge as almost every brand claims to be natural, organic, green, ayurvedic, dermatologically tested and much more. And this really creates confusion in the minds of the consumer. Consumer, a layman is often not knowledgeable enough in the very field to verify the tall claims these companies make which are mere marketing tools. Hence often a chemical product/wrong product is purchased in the name of natural product.

Unaware Ingredient Benefits

As a lay man a consumer would really have no information on skin benefits of various herbs and oils to treat prevent or nourish their skin. Thereby consumers are usually driven by advertisements and the herbal names like haldi chandan face cleanser, aloe vera cleanser, neem face wash etc.

The Natural organic liquid face and body cleansers certainly contain chemicals and preservatives.

All ingredients that go in the making of the product make a difference on the skin. – All ingredients that have been used in the making of the product will come in contact with the skin so it is important to choose a brand that has very simple face/body cleanser making method with addition of no chemicals and preservatives. Many brands choose to mention few ingredients often the natural ones and hide the chemical ingredients to give an impression to the consumer of the product totally "Natural". Brands that list "key ingredients", "Active ingredients" on product labels add much more to the product composition than what is listed on the label. Always avoid brands that do not disclose all ingredients clearly in common parlance.

The best way to choose truly natural face/body cleanser –

  • Just do not buy liquid/gel/paste/creamy cleansers at all. These cleansers cannot be made without the usage of chemicals and preservatives.
  • Read the labels carefully on the front of the product and the back side of the product for better understanding of the ingredients used in the making of the product. For example – you will come across words like aqua/water/gel/ and oil/butters on labels. Think, can water and oil mix together? But the so called natural cleanser that you have been trusting for long time now contains aqua/water/aloevera gel and oils/butters like almond, shea, cocoa, jasmine oil, jojoba oil etc. So emulsifiers which are chemicals are used to blend the oil and water together.
  • Can you really preserve water/aloe vera gel for months without any preservative? For this you can take fresh aloe vera leaf and scoop out the pulp in to a glass jar and keep it in refrigerator. The pulp will go bad in just a few weeks only. So how come these natural ingredients like gel or milk in cleansers stay a fresh in a bottle/tube cleanser?
  • When you read labels and come across products that have mention of "key ingredients" or "Active ingredient" on them instead of the complete list of ingredients – then try making the recipe on your own and keep it in a jar. Refrigerated recipe will last for 3-4 days or may a week while jar left at room temperature will go bad in just 1-2 days only or may be less than that. This simply means that there is something much more KEY to the recipe that keeps it fresh for 1-2 years but is kept hidden. Chemical ingredients are kept hidden only to ensure the customer really don’t get a feel of product not being "Natural"
  • How so ever big or small/ old or new the brand is – the detailed check on product ingredients and its making before buying the product is really important.
  • The various 21st century techniques that have come in practice to make the product cost effective with extended shelf life have led to multiple stages of processing of the ingredients hence the vital essentials are often lost. So think of a possible make and cost attached to the product.

So if liquid/gel based cleanser are bad to use then what does a human being use to ensure a proper cleansing of the skin?

1. Soap bars

All soap bars cannot be natural. Soap has been in use for centuries now. First soap was found to have been made about 5000 years ago with oils boiled with ashes.

So soap which is made up of only oils & Lye is a real soap, natural soap. But in last 3-4 decades there have been usage of various chemicals/processed ingredients in soap bars to make the soap bars cheap, colourful- attractive, good smelling with addition of fragrances and major money is spend on marketing the product then actually making a quality product.

An example to know how to differentiate between chemical soap bar and Real soap/natural soap bar

Ingredients of Dove sensitive skin beauty bar (There are many handmade soap bars available in the market which contain various chemicals. Handmade does not mean truly natural)

Ingredients: Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid,Lauric Acid, Sodium Tallowate or Sodium Palmitate, Water (Aqua), Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Stearate, Cocoamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Ingredients of a Real Soap Bar

Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Palm Oil, Kokum Butter, Goat Milk, Turmeric Root Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil, Patchouli Essential Oil, Cedarwood Essential Oil, Fullers Earth, Turmeric Powder, Distilled Water and Lye*. (*Used during the saponification process to turn oil into soap. No chemicals remain in the finished product. All 'Real Soaps' are made with saponified oils only). It is an ancient technique of soap making.

A lay man often misunderstands the detergent bars for soap bars. Detergents bars are called bathing bars, beauty bars etc. These are not the real soap made with oils and caustic soda.

While buying soap, do not get carried away by single/multiple names of the herbs that have been highlighted/listed. Always read the text in asterisk or tiny font as well. As there is a practice of making soaps with soap base, soap noodles by addition of fragrance , sodium benzoate, colour and much more etc.

Always buy the soap bar whose ingredients are easy to pronounce and quick to understand.

Over the years the ingredients have undergone major division basis the requirement. And this has led to birth of cosmetic grade oil for usage in skin care industry instead of the cold pressed edible oils. This is purely done to make the product cost effective.

A product can be effective only if the ingredients used in the product are PURE and NATURAL and of course made with ingredients that your skin needs.

2. Powder herb cleanser – The other safest alternate to cleanser

cleanser is Soap nuts or powdered herbs that contain natural saponins can provide very effective cleansing to the body but in today’s fast pace world no one wants to get in to the mess of powders and consumers expect skin care product to simultaneously act as perfume also. While the herbs really have a very mild note to negligible aroma in them. Hence is often not a preferred cleanser.

SNAANA products have come to the market post a detailed research because of increasing usage of chemicals in skin care products causing growing health concerns in human body. While it is clearly understood that chemical does provide side effects in some or the other form depending from person to person. And in the course of research it is also found that many skin concerns arise only because of not using the right product as per the need of the skin. Skin needs changes as we age.

That’s why SNAANA has introduced Real soap bar cleanser for various age groups and respective skin tones basis skin turnover cycle, hormonal changes, age related factors with suitable correction ingredients.

The making of the Goat milk soap at SNAANA

1. Making of cold pressed oil to use it in the soap Seeds like jojoba, hempseed, almond, Apricot, black cumin, pirella, bakuchi, coconut, sesame etc. and much more are cold pressed by our self just to ensure a healthy and pure ingredient.

2. Making of Steam distilled essential oils to use it in the soap Essential oil making from fresh and dry herbs like lavender, holy basil, peppermint, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, curry leaf, lemongrass, vetiver, chamomile etc.

3. Making of powders and herbs from whole herbs Making of powders from Whole herbs

4. Goat milk is sourced directly from the Goat farm.

5. Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is followed to ensure a clean healthy produce free from contamination.

Ingredients and product making is a clean, hygienic and quality controlled make that follows strict guidelines to eliminate the error. Modern machinery like sterilizers, oven dryers etc. are used to give ensure quality without any compromise.

Steps that go in the making of the Goat milk soap

  • Oils and butters are luke warmed and mixed in a vessel. Temperature is kept below 38 Degree Celsius.
  • Water mixed with Lye after it has cooled down to luke warm temperature is added to the oil vessel.
  • Steam distilled essential oils are added to the same vessel.
  • Batter is transferred to the steel pipes of 2 X 2 cm as shown in the picture. This is done to prevent excess heat trap in the batter which otherwise can kill the beneficial nutrients in the soap due to high heat. The thin pipes cool down immediately creating nutrient rich truly cold pressed soaps. Makers of cold process soap usually pour batter in large containers which takes time to cool down.
  • Soap is left to hard in the pipes for 3-4 days depending upon the soap. Some soap recipes may take a week to 10 days to be ready to push out.
  • Soap logs are cut in to soap bars and left to dry/turn hard slowly with evaporation of water over 6-8 weeks.
  • Soap are weighed and packed in raw wooden soap boxes. The wooden soap boxes are handmade raw and unpolished wood box. These boxes are made with cut pieces left over of furniture etc. Hence the box may vary in size, shape and texture. Cold pressed flaxseed oil is rubbed on to the wood to give it a better finish.

Real soap making with cold pressed oils and essential oils is time consuming and labour intensive process. A soap batch takes more than 2 months to turn to a finished soap ready to use.

The soap making is an ancient technique and hence is labor intensive and time consuming. SNAANA believes that if we can eat or brew a herb, we can consume its essential oil/cold pressed oil/hydrosol too.

And this belief is the founding principle of SNAANA that completely sets it different in terms of quality and effectiveness.

Pure quality ingredients and Right Composition indeed produces a excellent product.

VOTE FOR CHANGE

SNAANA wants to drag your attention to the fact that we are still living in a legal framework that was adopted in British times and has not been amended at the pace synthetics/chemicals have come into use in skin care. Import, manufacture, distribution and sale of skin care/ beauty products are regulated by Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 and this law till date has not given a definite and uniform definition for usage of words on labels like natural and organic which is big-time responsible for misleading the consumers.

That is why what is packed in a bottle or jar in the name of natural, organic, ayurvedic is often not what it claims. Synthetic provide comfort and convenience to manufacturers in terms of making product cost effective and extending the shelf life but they harm our bodies. This is because we have never thought that these chemicals can make cause problems like migraine, cancer, hormonal disorders etc and much more in our bodies.

Let's stand united and bring this revolution TOGETHER.
