With the spread of ayurveda, the benefits of Neem are not only known to Indians but people all over the world have recognised the relief Neem provides during itch, eczema, cuts & wounds, sore throat, chicken pox, dandruff, hairfall, dental diseases, body odour, ringworms, prickly heat, skin rashes, bad breathe, blood impurity, head lice, body lice etc. With increased urbanisation and hectic life – the time to look out for a tree, pluck leaves and make a concoction of it to use it in a particular illness is becoming a story of the past. People in cities prefer to visit a doctor for how so ever small or big is the concern.
So here at SNAANA we thought to present a completely chemical & preservative free steam distilled water of Neem leaves to give urbanites the convenience to treat the illness naturally.
Making of Steam distilled water – Our people make visits to villages where neem trees are available. They seek the permission of the gram –sarpanch and thereafter pluck the leaves in return for the decided amount. We only use neem leaves so do not cut the bark or stems of the tree. The leaves are washed and put in the distillation tank. The steam passes through the leaves taking along the water soluble neem nutrient and rises up. On rising up- it comes in contact with a cooling rod which acts as condenser and turns the steam into droplets of water. These droplets of water are collected in a glass flask and bottled as NEEM HYDROSOL or NEEM STEAM DISTILLED WATER. These droplets of water are free from bacteria, debris or any other kind of contamination so when stored in best conditions- minimum oxidation and cool temperature can stay healthy to use for good 2-3 years.
Is the hydrosol/steam distilled water same as the neem leaves concoction made at home.
Hydrosol/steam distilled neem water is very concentrated because it takes 2.4 kilo grams of neem leaves to produce 1 litre of neem steam distilled water. The process does not use water to make neem hydrosol, it rather uses steam to make the hydrosol. So neem hydrosol has all the ingredients that the neem leaves have. And the concoction made at home is not that powerful as the leaves are boiled in the water and there is no set/defined proportion of leaves to water ratio to give the desired benefits. Also during the boiling process many of the nutrients are evaporated while in steam distillation process there is no chance of evaporation of the nutrients. Refer video.
The neem concoction made at home is bright to dark green in colour while the steam distilled hydrosol is colourless like water. Refer Image.
Since the neem hydrosol produced at SNAANA is very concentrated so when used for internal consumption- one should dilute 1-2 table spoons in a glass of water and drink. For topical use it is important that the water is used through a mist bottle to ensure optimum use, no wastage.
Neem hydrosol is cool in nature and bitter in taste. A highly effective astringent

Often products sold in the market have neem water in minor proportion and that does not give the product the needed efficacy. Also look for product which can be consumed as well as applied.
SNAANA wants to drag your attention to the fact that we are still living in a legal framework that was adopted in British times and has not been amended at the pace synthetics/chemicals have come into use in skin care. Import, manufacture, distribution and sale of skin care/ beauty products are regulated by Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 and this law till date has not given a definite and uniform definition for usage of words on labels like natural and organic which is big-time responsible for misleading the consumers.
That is why what is packed in a bottle or jar in the name of natural, organic, ayurvedic is often not what it claims. Synthetic provide comfort and convenience to manufacturers in terms of making product cost effective and extending the shelf life but they harm our bodies. This is because we have never thought that these chemicals can make cause problems like migraine, cancer, hormonal disorders etc and much more in our bodies.
