Beauty isn't about fair skin
Beauty is all about fair skin. I want to look beautiful and that’s why I use skin lightening /whitening/Brightening products. Only because -
A fair skinned is labelled Beautiful and Dark skinned ugly. In marriages skin colour is a criterion extensively discussed in families. A pregnant woman would want to eat food light and white in colour only in the hope that light/white coloured food will make baby’s skin fair. Any colour outfit suits fair skinned individuals while just a few suits dark skinned.
In all fair complexion is indeed the first measure of beauty. It is largely a social construct that we have been living with and continue to contribute giving preference to light coloured skin tones. And this yearn for fair skin can cost us our life as these skin lightening products such as creams, scrubs etc. often contain mercury, hydroquinone and corticosteroid which on prolonged use can cause skin cancer, poisoning, kidney and liver malfunctioning. Do these whitening products really work?
Skin lightening products is a huge market globally and 61% Indian women use skin lightening and brightening creams every day. Brightening is a more sophisticated word for whitening– a push by major companies selling Skin care products. Many countries have banned skin lightening and bleaching products only in the wake of serious side effects these products have on human body. But would such a ban ever work?
All that’s needed is a new definition of beauty, one that puts an end to colour bias forever.
Beauty is within you a grace a personality that defines you irrespective of the colour of the skin you are born with.
And at SNAANA we believe not to ever mislead our customer and therefore we very clearly say that we being 100% natural cannot change the skin colour that is derived genetically. Hence we don’t make skin lightening, brightening and whitening products.
